One great link can do more than a hundred mediocre ones. So before you chase or pay for any placement, you need a way to judge it. This is the checklist we use to separate links worth having from links that waste budget; or worse, drag a site down.
DR, DA and AS are estimates built by third-party tools, and they can be gamed. Some sellers inflate metrics with artificial links, which is why a high score with no matching organic traffic is suspicious. Always cross-check the score against real traffic and relevance using your backlink tools. A relevant, real-traffic site at DR 30 often beats a hollow DR 70.
Toxic backlinks come from link farms, private blog networks and spammy directories; the kind of tactics covered in our white hat vs black hat guide. The good news: Google is now very good at simply ignoring low-quality links. For most websites the disavow tool is unnecessary; reserve it for cases with a manual action or a genuine pattern of manipulative links you cannot get removed.
The one-question test: would you still want this link if it sent you zero ranking benefit; purely for the readers and reputation it brings? If yes, it is a quality link.
